Alpha Gamma Delta’s philanthropic focus is Fighting Hunger. Food insecurity affects every race, age and community, including the communities where we are placed. That is why we want to be a part of the solution. Partnering with national and local organizations, we are able to make an impact on our communities. We are committed to contributing to the world’s work as our Purpose calls us to do. As a sisterhood, we work together to make a greater impact.
Our impact is enhanced through fundraising for the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation. They provide fighting hunger grants to various organizations that are doing their part in their local community to fight hunger. I am pleased to introduce myself and chapter as Emily Louk Vice President of the Theta Zeta Chapter of Alpha Gamma Delta. Our organization is committed to fighting hunger, as we partner with Feeding America and Meals on Wheels to make an impact in our local community. Food insecurity is defined as having insufficient food to eat or not knowing where or when an individual's next meal will come from. It is a significant problem as it is estimated that one in eight Americans and Canadians experience hunger. To do our part in this universal issue we collect canned goods, host fundraising events, and encourage members to volunteer at local food banks. One way I have volunteered is by participating in Meals on Wheels, a program that brings meals right to individuals' front doors. We host two philanthropic events throughout the year, this includes ‘Mac and Cheese with AGD’ a cookoff where student organizations compete to raise philanthropy fundraising. Our second event is ‘Cornhole with Alpha Gam’ a tournament fundraising for the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation. While our philanthropic focus is fighting hunger, we also do a series of other services, such as volunteering in the community of Ashland with yard work. Our chapter enjoys making cards for kids in the hospital, writing letters to the elderly, and even partnering with other organizations for service. With that being said, philanthropy and service are important to us, and it is our purpose "To welcome the opportunity of contributing to the world's work in the community where I am placed because of the joy of service thereby bestowed and the talent of leadership multiplied." Through service, we experience the joy of helping others, creating lifelong memories, and perfecting friendships. With sisterly love, Emily Louk
